HISTORY
Zion quilters began their mission in 1999 under the direction of Hilma Ronfeld and Betty Lubcke to construct tied quilts for world wide distribution to those in need through Lutheran World Relief. Since 1999 we have shipped 3300 quilts. One hundred and fifty of these were distributed to Katrina victims by Zion’s pastor, Stephen Lee. Zion Lutheran Social Ministry Committee is the sponsoring entity for the group.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to do for others while having a great time together. Coffee breaks with homemade goodies are a given. Recently we have expanded our ministry to make 20 quilts for our local homeless as well as meeting our goal of 500 this year for LWR. Currently we have passed 539 in our goal.
WHEN WE MEET
A dedicated group of women meet monthly in the summer and weekly on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. to construct quilts and enjoy wonderful fellowship in Luther Hall at the church. To increase production, a second session targeting the working woman, will meet each Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Please join us, no experience is necessary. This is a great way to meet people.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP If you aren’t able to join us at the church, fabric can be cut or quilts tops stitched at home. We are also in constant need of cotton and cotton blend fabrics and gently used sheets. In May when we package our quilts for shipping we can use strong men to help.

Sunday April 25th is Quilt Sunday where the sanctuary will be transformed with quilts. The quilts will be dedicated to the glory of God before they find their way to Lutheran World Relief warehouse and then on to the needy around the world. Our local quilters will be recognized for their dedication to the ministry and a door offering will be recieved to help pay for shipping from Portland, Oregon to Baltimore, Maryland. We are assessed a fee of .21 cents per pound for shipping.
On April 29th at 9:00 we will meet at the church to pack the quilts for shipping. We can use (and would appreciate) extra male help to assemble and handle boxes. Jim and Linda Smith will leave on April 30th to haul the quilts to Portland for shipping.
