The Good Shepherd Auxiliary is the national auxiliary of Bethesda Lutheran Communities whose commitment is to provide “faith based services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities”
These services include training in self-help and independent living , spiritual supports as well as some vocational training. Participants live in group homes or apartments.
In the late 50’s a California couple looking for a home for their son sought the help of the eastern Bethesda Communities who had established institutions for people with disabilities since 1904.
As a result ,the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home of the West was begun in Terra Bella, California with the help of Bethesda. Bethesda now supports locations in four Western States. In May 2009 Good Shepherd and Bethesda merged creating Bethesda Lutheran Communities

Zion Church has supported the Good Shepherd Auxiliary from it’s inception in the early 50’s by soliciting membership donations and holding fund raising events. An early decision was that funds raised be used to support the spiritual life of the residents. Zion, in the past, has held a membership drive and bazaar in the fall, but donations are welcome at any time.
